The hotel had character, and the staff were friendly and helpful, contributing to the quality of our stay. We were very pleased with our stay, but it was disappointing to hear that the hotel had not been advised of my booking.

    the real ale friendly staff

poor lighting on landing and carpers broken or thread bare on stairs could be a health and safty issue for elderly visitors

    Absolutely nothing

Room had been flooded, carpets wet, nothing done about problem after complaining, toilet not working, bath dirty, bad smell in room, old biscuits on side, never stay there again.

We booked this hotel before reading the old reviews which were terrible. However on arriving on the 9th July we learned that new owners had taken over the hotel three weeks ago. Our bedroom (No 13) was clean & newly painted with new wardrobes and a dressing table. New, good quality towels were supplied. The bathroom had new wall & floor tiles & fittings. The evening meal was good.

Not withstanding the improvements that are being made the carpets desperately need replacing and the mattress was time expired. The owners said that these defects will be remedied asap. They have refitted 50% of the bedrooms as mentioned above. Once the refurbishments are complete I would recommend this hotel.

Good location, friendly staff, good food and beer. A very pleasant stay. All round good value.

The staff were wonderful, very friendly and very, very doggy friendly. Drinks were reasonably priced as was the food and dinner was excellent, huge portions. I wanted to know where to walk my dog and the landlord not only showed me but bought his dog along as well!! We would definitely go back.

The rooms were clean and bedding and towels spotless but the pillows were very thin. Could do with getting rid of the awful plastic trays and kettle and replacing with a proper kettle. Maybe add decaf coffee and hot chocolate as well. Only liquid soap on the sink in bathroom could think about adding shower gel and shampoo. However all these things are suggestions and not complaints and would not stop us going again.

No hot water available for washing or showering in the morning; 'Continental' breakfast consisted of tea or coffee; sliced white bread toast, Weetabix / unbranded corn flakes / rice pops, and poor quality orange juice.

    Nothing

I actually booked on behalf of another person but when the gentleman arrived complete with printed booking confirmation he was told that he was not booked in?? Apparently their computer system had been down for several days. He was found a room but it was the only one left and it was located directly above the kitchen where a fan was constantly whirring. The booking stated that breakfast was 7 A.M. until 9a.M., but when he went down at 7.00 he was told there would be no breakfast available until 8.00 (he had to attend a 9.00 A.M. meeting), so in the end had no time for breakfast. The gentleman concerned frequents the area regularly, but has asked me not to book the Crown & Horns agains.

All I can say is that it was reasonable situated to the "Ridgway Walk" which we were walking.

The interior was generally in need of redecoration. The carpets were in a poor condition. Although there was coffee and tea supplied in the bedroom there was only one tea bag and one coffee sache...no milk, we had to ask for that. The bathroom was dirty with no soap supplied. I certainly would not stay here again and not recommend it ot anyone else.

The food was out of this world, it is a shame that the chefs are due to leave this week as they are the best assest this hotel has.

The room was filthy: if you had the courage you could write your name in the brown grot in & around the sink. The shower was broken & laying the bath. There was no hot water on the sink to which the manager said "use the bath tap". The bath & loo were filthy, with tolet roll in the bath plughole & the loo brush in it's stand covered in grot & loo paper?. The ceiling in bedroom was water stained from room above, carpets were filthy, & rubbish left from previous visitors under the bed. Also no tea or coffee for the two mis-matched coffee mugs (one large one small?). Last night there the manager had a lock in where he & his friends kept us & other guests up until gone 3am with their partying. Then someone tried to enter our room at 5.50am. Left note at 8.10am for manager who never apologised despite seeing us several times, so I spoke to him at 7pm when he offered to change our room & complained that he could not get anyone at that time of night to clean or do the repairs as if it was our fault!

The staff did not care about any of the guests! When we arrived after an 8 hour journey, they claimed they had not received our booking, but I had printed off a copy! The manager then had to be called, he showed me to a room that was supposidly non smoking, it was filthy and smelling of smoke. I asked for another room. He gave me another one which was not quite so dirty, apart from the toilet which was disgusting! The manager also announced that the hotel would be closed from 9.pm to 11pm because all the staff were going to a local barn dance! So again the guests had to suffer, if we had known in advance then I am sure we could have managed. When they returned from the dance the staff and others continued to party until 3.30am, resulting in none of the guests getting any sleep. When we all mentioned it in the morning, there was no apology, and they still charged us the full amount. May I strongly suggest that you do not recommend this hotel! This is the worst hotel that I have ever stayed in.

The carpet wasn't hovered before we checked in, l found an empty beer bottle in the room obviously left behind from the last guests and my friends in the next room found a dirty pair of socks from the previous occupants. So l would suggest attention to cleaning is much needed.

Location, food and pub, the employees in the pub worked very hard to take care of the customers and the food was good.

The room was deplorable. TV did not work. Bathroom dirty, used soap only on tub, very little toilet tissue, used toothpaste tube left behind. Carpets dirty. It did not look as though it had been thoroughly cleaned from previous occupant.
